The princess sleeps in her bed,
Hidden in the castle tower.
Her lips are a brilliant red,
Her skin soft as a flower.
Tales of her beauty are widespread,
Attracting many men of power.
Princes come from far away
To wake this beautiful doll,
But they are always kept at bay
By thorns blanketing the outer wall.
"Many men bled to death," people say.
"No one could hear them call."
One brave prince decided to try
And wake this Beauty with a kiss.
He actually managed to get by
And plant a kiss to wake the miss.
His kiss awoke her with a cry. . .
"Why? What did I do to deserve this?"
Startled, the prince just stared at her.
"I wanted to be rid of guys like you!
You're probably just another bachelor
Who thinks he's filled with virtue,
Intelligence, kindness, and valor.
None of you has a single clue.
"I only want to be left alone.
The single life is the life for me.
No man shall marry me for my throne.
Now go away and leave me be!"
All the prince could do was moan,
And then he left reluctantly.
The princess returned to her rest.
The prince returned to his land,
And, at his request,
A sign was posted with this command:
"A warning to all princes: It would be best
If you left for you'll only get canned."
