Author's note: There isn't much suspense like in most of my other stories, and this one won't keep you on the edge of your seats, but it's a cute little fic about Jessie and James' school days. It's Meowth-free fic, sorry- but they didn't meet him yet in that period. As weird as it gets- this fic is told by James. Pokemon and Team Rocket aren't mine, and all right reserved.
"Just leave me alone." I looked through the window and wished he was gone. He really made me feel like a total jerk, and I felt an urge to kick his ass. But no one messes with Fred, so what could I do?
"It'll be hard to leave you alone if you stay here another year. When are you planning on passing the final test?"
"I learned hard this time, I'll pass!"
"Sure, Jimmy-boy, sure." He laughed and walked away. I really hate him.
"What was that all about?" A little red-head girl sat next to me.
"Fred..." I sighed, "You're the new girl?"
"Yep. Jessica-", she outstretched her hand towards me, "but you can call me Jessie."
Her friendly behavior surprised me. No one has ever been so friendly to me like that before. "James", I shook her little white hand, "But you can call me Jim."
"You know what? I like 'James' better. Mind if I call you that?" she smiled. I had just noticed how pretty she was, with big blue eyes, a little cute nose and a pretty smile. She looked awfully cute in her uniform, the short skirt and the little vest.
"No, It's fine." I smiled back, hoping that I'm not blushing.
"So, what did the big guy want from you?"
"He always teases me, because I don't do well in the tests. It wasn't always like that, I'm just sick of this place, so I don't study too much."
"Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been here for only two days and I hate everything. All the rich kids..."
"Aren't you a rich kid yourself?"
"Me? No..." She laughed, "I'm as poor as one can be. My dad put all his money aside so he could send me here. He isn't doing well since my mom died. That's why I'm here- he can't have me around him, I remind him of her too much."
"Oh... I'm sorry."
"Don't be, it's not your fault." She smiled sadly. I could see in her eyes that she wasn't doing very well herself.
"Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I'm a rich kid myself."
"No, you're ok. Otherwise, you would have been picking on other kids instead of being picked on yourself."
"You have a point," I smiled at her, "Either you pick on kids or get picked on by kids. I guess they're just trying to help..."
"Some help... are you getting better marks thanks to their teasing?"
"Umm... no..." I blushed. I didn't want her to think I'm stupid, "Even worse, because I can't concentrate."
"See? They're just stupid snobs."
I smiled at her. She was cute and friendly, nothing like the other kids here, and she was very pretty too. Finally, I had a new friend.
"Oh, stop whining," She pulled out a mallet and whacked me over on the head. She does that a lot, but one night she told me she's hitting me so I won't whine and be spoiled. She's really hot tempered, which is probably her only disadvantage. Other than that, she's my best friend. It's been three weeks since she came to the Poke-Tech, and we were the best friends in the world. It was such a great feeling, knowing that there's someone who really cares about me, someone who always enjoys hanging out with me.
We were walking through the yard with our books, when suddenly I tripped over a pit in the ground, and all my books fell on the grass.
"James! Are you ok?" Jessie looked worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I blushed and bent down to pick up my books.
"Here, let me help you," she bent down to help me pick up the books, and for a moment our eyes met. She smiled at me and I smiled back at her, all nervous. I liked her a lot, and being so close to her made my legs go numb.
"Yo, Jimmy, being clumsy as usual?"
"Oh god..." I mumbled, frozen in my place, with one hand on one of my books. Not him again...
"You should really watch were you're going, you don't want everybody to know that you're stupid and blind." It was Fred, and he really enjoyed the embarrassing situation. I looked over at Jessie, hoping to find some comfort in her eyes, but to my surprise, her expression changed, and she turned all red and angry. Suddenly she pulled herself up from the floor and stood right in front of the big intimidating kid.
"Oh gee, Freddie, I didn't know you cared about everyone thinking you're stupid. Otherwise you wouldn't have opened you mouth at all."
I was totally in shocked, and so were a few other kids who gathered around to see who's that crazy girl, who thinks she can confront Fred.
"Hey, It's not your business, girl. I suggest you take a hike so your pretty face won't be damaged."
"I suggest you keep your suggestions to yourself." She stood really close to him, put her hands on her waist and stared deep into his eyes. She was something about 5 inches shorter that him, and I thought she was completely out of her mind.
"Jessie... maybe you should..."
"I can handle that, James," she hushed me with her hand.
"Fine, little girl, let's see what you're made of," Fred took out a Pokeball. "Bulbasour! Go !" and a big Bulbasour got out of it. It was Fred's infamous Bulbasour, and I wondered how's Jessie going to get out of this one. A lot of kids gathered around us and started cheering and shouting.
"Nice pet," She looked at the Pokemon and pulled out a Pokeball. "Ekanes! Go!" and a big Ekanes got out of the ball and hissed. "Ekanessss..."
I didn't even know she had an Ekanes, let alone that it was so big.
"Bulbasour! Use your vines to take down this ugly snake!"
"Bulba!" the Bulbasour sent his vines toward Ekanes, and grabbed it.
"Ekanes!" Jessie looked horrified. Her Pokemon seemed to be in a lot of pain, and I was already planning in my head a way to grab Jessie and run away as quickly as possible.
"Bite it, now!" The Ekanes bit the vines and got free. I was totally surprised to see that Jessie got out of it real nicely.
"Bulbasour! Razor-leaves!" Fred yelled maniacally.
"Dive! Under the ground, NOW!" Jessie lifted her hand and the snake dived under the grass, evading the leaves. Suddenly he got out from behind Fred's Bulbasour.
"Strangle him, Ekanes!" Jessie ordered and Ekanes strangled the Bulbasour. Everyone was breathless when it fell down, worn out. "Bulba..."
"Bulbasour!" Fred ran over to his Bulbasour and picked him up.
"The fight is over. Now get out of my sight." Jessie called back her Ekanes and before I could run over to her, she took off.
She was there, holding her Ekanes in her hands. I came closer to her and sat next to her. She didn't took her eyes off of her Pokemon. I noticed that she was putting bandages on it's wounds.
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah," she sounded sad. "My Ekanes got hurt."
"Ekanessss..." it hissed weakly.
"I didn't know you had an Ekanes."
"It was a gift for My birthday."
"You put up a great fight today. You and Ekans were really amazing. Thanks for standing up for me."
She didn't answer, she just kept putting bandages on Ekanes.
"Where did you learn to do that? I mean, taking care of your Pokemon?"
"My mom taught me." (Author's note: Ever wondered how do Team Rocket heal their Pokemons after a fight? They can't take them to the Pokemon-Center...)
"I hate this place," Jessie sniffed, "I hate the kids and the classes are boring."
"Well, that's school for ya," I put a hand on her shoulder. "The year will be over soon, It'll be ok."
"I guess."
I looked up to the sky. "Jess, Do you ever miss home?"
"Well, not really. At least here I have a roof above my head and food to eat. And you?" v "Well, I miss my Growlithe, and having a room of my own, even though I like Teddy, my roommate, but other than this, I didn't really like my home. I don't have a lot of things to miss." I looked sadly at her. "Hmmm... maybe things won't get better after school's over." Now I was sad too.
"No, It will. Think positive." She smiled, her pretty blue eyes still wet. "And now If you don't mind, I'm tired and I'm going to bed." And she got up and walked away, holding Ekans in her hands.
